English below! De laatste Sunday Jamsession van het jaar wordt er eentje om niet te vergeten. Op zondag 20 december openen we onze kerstjamsessie met een optreden van de Bredase Small Town Big Band, waarna het podium weer van jou is. Of je nou mee komt jammen of alleen wilt genieten van de sfeer: iedereen is welkom bij Poppodium Phoenix! Musici van alle niveaus, genres en leeftijden stappen op ons podium om te experimenteren, te verbinden en vooral te genieten. Ook hebben wij iedere week een nieuwe sessieleider.

## Small Town Big Band
Sinds 1983 staat de Small Town Big Band uit Breda voor dé volle en energieke bigbandsound. Onder leiding van Adri Kas en met de jazzy stem van vocalist Lisette Spee combineren ze klassiekers in de sfeer van Count Basie en Duke Ellington met latin, bossa nova, funk en werk van Miles Davis en Charles Mingus. Geen museumstuk dus, maar bigbandmuziek die leeft: strak, dynamisch en vol speelplezier. De band stond onder meer op Koningsdag op het Kasteelplein, Jazzin’Abt en Big Band Festival Lelystad. Een swingender begin van de kerstsessie kun je je niet wensen.

## De sessieleider deze week: Damiën van Gageldonk!
Op deze avond viert Damiën dat hij precies twintig jaar saxofoon speelt! Ook opent hij met de Small Town Big Band de laatste jamsessie van het jaar, waarna hij als sessieleider optreedt. Hij is achter de schermen een vertrouwd gezicht bij Phoenix, waar hij zich als vrijwilliger bezighoudt met geluid en techniek. Met zijn metersbrede liefde voor muziek, live geluid en samenspel zorgt hij ervoor dat alles samenkomt, op én naast het podium. Wil je het jaar feestelijk en jammend afsluiten? Spreek hem dan aan en hij helpt je het podium op!

## Hoe doe je mee?
Na het optreden van de Small Town Big Band kun je jezelf vanaf 20:00 melden bij de sessieleider, die je graag het podium op helpt! Speel jij het liefst een cover of ga je voor een freestyle? De sessieleider brengt je graag in contact met andere muzikanten. Uiteraard mag je een eigen instrument meenemen, maar je kunt ook gebruikmaken van ons scala aan instrumenten. Zo hebben wij diverse piano’s, keyboards, microfoons, gitaren, basgitaren, drumstellen, percussie en zelfs een contrabas voor je klaarstaan!

Jammen en lekker eten! Ons zondagmenu is een begrip geworden in Breda. Schuif vanaf 18:00 aan en houd onze socials in de gaten voor het menu van deze week.

The last Sunday Jamsession of the year is one you won’t want to miss. On Sunday 20 December, we kick off our Christmas jam session with a performance by Breda’s own Small Town Big Band, after which the stage is yours. Whether you want to jam with us or just enjoy the atmosphere: everyone is welcome at Poppodium Phoenix! Musicians of all levels, genres and ages step onto our stage to experiment, connect and above all enjoy. We also have a new session leader every week.

## Small Town Big Band
Since 1983, Breda’s Small Town Big Band has stood for a full and energetic big band sound. Led by Adri Kas and featuring the jazzy voice of vocalist Lisette Spee, they combine classics in the spirit of Count Basie and Duke Ellington with Latin, bossa nova, funk and work by Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. So no museum piece, but big band music that’s alive: tight, dynamic and full of joy in playing. The band has played King’s Day at the Kasteelplein, Jazzin’Abt and Big Band Festival Lelystad, among others. You couldn’t wish for a more swinging start to our Christmas session.

## This week’s session leader: Damiën van Gageldonk!
Tonight, Damiën is celebrating exactly twenty years of playing the saxophone! He’s also opening the last jam session of the year with the Small Town Big Band, after which he’ll take over as session leader. Behind the scenes, he volunteers as a sound and tech guy at Phoenix, where he’s a familiar and trusted face. With his broad love for music, live sound and playing together, he works his magic so everything comes together, on stage and off stage. Do you want to end the year in the holiday spirit while jamming together? Talk to Damiën, and he’ll sort you out!

## How do you participate?
After the Small Town Big Band’s performance, you can talk to the session leader from 20:00, who will be happy to help you get on stage! Do you prefer to play a cover or will you freestyle? The session leader will get you in touch with other musicians. Of course you can bring your own instrument, but you can also use our range of instruments. For example, we have various pianos, keyboards, microphones, guitars, bass guitars, drum kits, percussion and even a double bass ready to be played!
