Every city has its gates. This one belongs to us. Rotterdam-based DJ Zouflebouf introduces Al Bab, a new gathering where the sounds, cultures and communities of Rotterdam’s diaspora meet. After seven packed editions of Zouflebouf ‘n Friends, what started as a series of nights has grown into something that deserves a home of its own.

Al Bab means the gate in Arabic. And this gate is open to everyone.

Rooted in Rotterdam. Connected to the World.
In the 1960s, the first generation of Moroccan men arrived in Rotterdam. They came with suitcases, cassette tapes and the promise of work in the city’s port. Without knowing it, they opened a door for generations to come.

Families followed. Children grew up between cultures, carrying the sounds of home into the streets of Rotterdam. Arabic melodies at the dinner table, dancehall and hip-hop outside. Different worlds, one identity. Zouflebouf is part of that generation. Rotterdam raised him. Morocco runs through him.

His sound has never belonged to a single genre. Arabic rhythms, dancehall, Afro sounds and everything in between. A reflection of the worlds that shaped him. Seven editions. Packed rooms. Different backgrounds moving to the same rhythm. Somewhere along the way, it became clear that this was never just about the music.

It was about belonging.
