A double bill of two wonderful violin-piano duo’s:
Ida Alanen (piano) & Oene van Geel (viola/violin), both being composers/musicians, found each other in their wish to create sonic pictures where the lines between structure and improvisation are blurred. At the core of their music, you can find imaginary folk tales, wide open landscapes and big city rush hours.
Shannon Lee (violin) & Arseniy Gusev (piano/composition) are both internationally acclaimed musicians who will play a special Splendor program based around Arseniy’s composition Crossroads and Martinu, Bax, Milhaud and Respighi.
Arseniy Gusev: Recipient of Charles Ives Fellowship 2025 and winner of Singapore International Piano Competition 2021, Arseniy Gusev has been pursuing a double career, as a composer and concert pianist. Gusev’s compositions present a colorful variety of styles and genres, some of which are solo, collaborative, orchestral and chamber music, film and theater scores, electronic compositions, lofi, techno, ballet, and opera. Among his mentors and influences are David Lang, with whom he studied at the Yale School of Music, Sergei Babayan, and Sergei Slonimsky. Several Gusev’s works notably explore alternative and imaginative history, as well as its cultural oddities.
Shannon Lee: Praised by Gramophone for her remarkable fire, impeccable intonation, and big, vibrant tone, Shannon Lee has appeared with orchestras such as the Tokyo Symphony, Antwerp Symphony, and the Belgian National Orchestra, and has been a prize winner at prestigious international competitions. Since 2023, she has been the founder and director of Chamber Music Perspectives in Dallas–Fort Worth. Born in Canada, Shannon studied at the Curtis Institute, the Cleveland Institute, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and earlier earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Columbia University.
